New York Fashion Week: More of the Gaga Effect?

I'll be honest, I haven't really been all over NYFW coverage. I have been glancing at a slideshow here and there, the Primped girls did such a bomb diggity job of breaking down the trends in bite-sized pieces for me, and of course, I have been perving at pics of front-row celebs like Blake Lively, Courtney Love, Taylor Momsen, Taylor Swift.. you know, all my girls. But I haven't been going nutso for the runway shows, haven't been eagerly lapping up pics of my fave models off-duty, haven't been camping out on Getty for fresh pics.

BUT, now that it's over, two things have come to my attention, and in the interests of following up on the Gaga Effect, I need to share. Every day, I grow a little more fearful that this fearlessly-pantless, blatantly self-promoting like no other (well, maybe Perez), attention-whoring 'performer' is slowly taking over the world.

Case in point:

#1: FAIRY FLOSS HAIR.

Cue Gaga, as discussed in an earlier post.

Now, time for a bevy of NYFW photospam:

Proenza Schouler. The models headed down the runway with beachy waves in different shades, including this rather fetching purpley hue:

Zac Posen. There were yellow, pink, purple, every-colour-of-the-rainbow extensions woven in for a colour injection. They look like pretty ribbons! Try this at home, people.

Carolina Herrera. These were beaded headpieces designed especially for the show, each was made from a headband comb with metallic beads attached. Just between you and me, if you're a dab hand with stray Christmas tinsel and a handful of bobby pins, I think you could do this easy peasy at home.

#2: PINK HAIR BOWS

This isn't so much a cause for concern, because GOLLY I am giddy with anticipation at the thought of chain stores getting all over pink hair bows! And quite frankly, I don't think this is as much of a Gaga cause as it is Gossip Girl. Oh, Blair. How I love your headbands. How I love you and Chuck and your tortured love, you two put Romeo and Juliet to shame.

Marc Jacobs, paying homage to his VIP guest and after-show performer:

(Fact: many of the models dyed their hair platinum blonde for Marc's show. Including Jessica Stam! Well, I suppose, he named a bag after her, so it's the least she could do.)

Excuse me? Betsey Johnson? I want a massive pink hair bow for spring racing. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Maybe I should get crafty with a wad of hot pink tulle...

And this isn't NYFW, but still vital (read: indulgent). Carrie, stuck in a timewarp on the set of the second SATC movie.

And here's a red bow at Luella. Booooo Luella, everything is better in pink! Shame on you.

Interesting Educational Fact: SOMEONE forgot to tell Gags that Marc Jacobs now starts his shows on time, so when miss Lady Pantsless Gaga showed up a few minutes late for an 8pm start, she lost her front row seat (they really should have donated it to me) and watched it from the standing section at the end of the runway. With no complaints, too! Unlike Lilo and her seating tantrums, bless her dear heart.

Gaga at MJ's show – she's with Marc's boyfriend, Lorenzo. Aww. Meanwhile, I really cannot keep up with her hair anymore…

Note: I promise I will ease up on the Gaga-laden blogging. Although as much as she irritates the hell out of me, I have to give her props for being prime blogging fodder. She's kooky, and attention-seeking, and consistent. She's like a whole visual barrage of crazy.
